Environmental Strep spp.

V. ES>100=UNACCEPTABLE (Pathogen and has ability to cause transient increases in bacteria numbers in BTM)

(Include members of Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Lactococcus, and Aerococcus

  1. Intramammary Infections

  2. Unsanitary Environment

  3. Poor Pre-Milking Hygiene

 

Gram-Negative Non-Coliforms

NC<300=ACCEPTABLE

NC<300=UNACCEPTABLE

  1. Unclean equipment

  2. Improper Sanitizing Practices

  3. Milkstone Deposits

 
Coagulase-Positive Staphylococci
  1. Improper cleaning and drying of teats prior to milking
 

Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci

(Oppotunistic paths and part of resident flora on teat skin. If given favorable conditions they colonize teat canal and enter gland to produce mastitis)

  1. Improper cleaning and drying of teats prior to milking

 

Mycoplasma

Present=Unacceptable
